Dorothy I Rothgeb Price

Age 85, Chesapeake, Va.

Dorothy I. Rothgeb Price, 85, was called home on Monday, April 10, 2023, in Chesapeake, Virginia.

“Dot,” as she was lovingly called by family and friends, was born on November 13, 1937, to the late Marvin and Alice Rothgeb of Luray, Virginia. She loved to tell everyone that this was also the same date that the Luray Singing Tower was commissioned near Luray Caverns.

Dot grew up in Luray, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. She graduated from Luray High School in 1956, where she was Homecoming Queen of her graduating class. That same year, she married the love of her life, Earl J. Price, who she had known since age 13.

Dot was a devoted Navy wife for 37 years and their life together took them to numerous military ports along the East Coast. During that time, Dot was completely dedicated to family responsibilities while supporting Earl’s naval career. She also worked part-time at Sears department stores, where she retired in 1993.

Shortly thereafter, she became known as “Granny” in 1993 (Zach) and again in 1997 (Joe). Dot was always there for her two grandsons, providing them with valuable advice, guidance and life lessons along the way.

Many family members and friends also confided in her, seeking out the wisdom and comfort that a life well-lived can provide during difficult times.

She will be greatly missed and remembered for her caring spirit and generosity.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Price, who died in 1994.

She is survived by her son, Robert W. Price (and wife Kathy) of Chesapeake; and two grandsons, Zachary B. Price (and wife Shannon) of Columbus, Ohio, and Joseph E. Price of Chesapeake.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Erich Bennett, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Stanley Advent Cemetery.
