August 3, 1961 — With only some 30 days to go, work is being pushed to get Page County schools in readiness for the first day of school on Sept. 5.

This year will mark the beginning of a new era of school organization in Page County when Stanley and Shenandoah will consolidate their high schools in the new Page County High School at Newport and present facilities converted to elementary use.

Also for the first time there will be a separate school in Luray for all elementary grades.

The new school at Luray has been completed and accepted by the Page County School Board and the American Legion Building which has been in use for a number of years has been repaired, remodeled and turned back to the local Legion Post.

At Stanley and Shenandoah work is going forward on remodeling for elementary purposes.
