TREASURE COAST, FLA., Aug. 2 — The Shenandoah 8U All-Stars entered bracket play on Monday as the No. 1 seed after a flawless (4-0) performance in pool play Friday through Sunday at the 2021 Babe Ruth World Series. They continued their winning ways on Monday, as Shenandoah now sits at 5-0 with only two games between them and a World Series title.

On Sunday, Shenandoah defeated the only other undefeated team in the tournament at that time, Royal Palm Beach, by a narrow margin of 13-12. Shenandoah got in a 6-0 hole early after the first inning, before scoring three in the second and five in the third to take an 8-7 lead. They picked up four more runs in the fourth after allowing two and lead 12-9 heading into the fifth inning. In the fifth, Royal Palm Beach cut the lead to two runs, narrowing the score to 13-11. They would pick up one more run in the sixth, but Shenandoah held on for the 13-12 win.

Jadeyn Blosser was selected as the Ron Tellefsen “Player of the Game”. The award is named after the Babe Ruth League’s late president and CEO. The League was founded in 1951 and is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary.

On Monday, Shenandoah took care of Lutz Lightning in just three-and-a-half innings as they captured a 12-1 win by way of the slaughter rule. After a scoreless first inning, Shenandoah scored seven runs in the second and five runs in a third inning that featured three in-the-park home runs. Jadeyn Blosser was again selected as the “Player of the Game”.

The Shenandoah All-Stars have performed well in all facets of the game throughout the World Series. And while their hitting has been superb, it’s their aggressive base running and solid defense that have really made the difference.

On Tuesday, Shenandoah once again faces off with Royal Palm Beach, who thus far, has only suffered one loss — to Shenandoah. The one-run, back-and-forth battle they had on Sunday afternoon could play out again tomorrow when they hit the diamond for a 3 p.m. matchup.

If Shenandoah wins, they would play Wednesday at 1 p.m. for the World Series title. If they were to lose their first game of the Series on Tuesday, they would play at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning for another chance to advance to the title game.

The Shenandoah 8U All-Stars are making history, as the first team in that age division of softball to represent the Shenandoah Recreation League at the World Series. While the local league has sent several teams to Florida in recent years, only one team — the 2016 12U softball all-stars — have come home as World Series champions.

Shenandoah reached this year’s World Series after outscoring their opponents 37-2 in the state tournament they hosted in July.
