LURAY, Oct. 5 — In last Wednesday’s cross country meet at Luray High School’s Chrisman Field, both Davey Johnson and Carolina Wood ran their way into the record books.

Johnson came within five seconds of the all-time LHS boys cross country record with a time of 17:09.3 — the record by W. Sutphin is 17:04. Johnson’s time was also fifth-best, all-time at Chrisman Field.

Wood also posted the second-best, all-time LHS mark for girls cross country with a time of 21:13.6 — also the fifth-best time recorded at Chrisman Field for girls.

Despite getting in the record books, both runners finished in second place for the day. Chelsea Academy’s Bryson Barnett won the boys race in 16:44.56 — the second-best time ever recorded at Chrisman Field. Strasburg’s Claire Keefe won the girls race with a time of 20:01.04 — the third-best female time ever recorded at Chrisman Field.
