Age 59, Shenandoah, Va.

Joseph Vincent DiRosario, Sr., 59, of Shenandoah, Virginia, passed away June 28, 2023, at home. He was born November 16, 1963, in New York, N.Y. and was the son of the late Peter Daniel DiRosario, Sr. and Anne D’Ambrosio.

Joseph DiRosario commonly known by many as “Joey Dee” was a man of insurmountable passion. From a young age he worked in his parent’s store helping out how ever he could. As he grew older, he felt like nothing could stop him, even after being hit by a garbage truck as a young man, he popped right up with a shattered leg and took the cast off in less than a month when it got in his way during a game of his beloved hobby, billiards.

At 30, he found something far greater than playing pool and that is having someone you love dearly to play it with. He met Rosa Diaz in New York and after 5 years he was unaware he’d ever love anyone as much as Rosa until they had Joseph Jr.

At 34 years old, he had now found something even stronger than his confidence and passion and that was an unwavering need to protect and provide for his family. He moved to Virginia to start a new life, a place much safer than the busy streets of the city he grew up in leaving many great friends and loved ones behind. Over the last 25 years, he raised a family that he could not be prouder of and made new bonds that will last for ages.

Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Rosa Inez Diaz. Also surviving are his two sons, Joseph V. DeRosario, Jr. and companion Morgan Brannan and Jose Rosa; his daughter, Michelle Crider and husband, Dean; four brothers, Jimmy DeRosario, Bobby DeRosario, Frankie DiRosario and Michael DeRosario and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Pete DiRosario, Jr. and two sisters-in-law, Laura DeRosario and Deborah DeRosario.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
