Age 77, Stanley, Va.

Larry Gorden Young, 77, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1943, in Luray and was a son of the late Rufus Young and Jean Kern Young.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and was an engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren in Stanley and a lifetime member of Page County 4-H.

On Jan. 29, 1966, he married Dorothy Marie Price Young, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Larry G. Young II and wife Sherry of Stanley, and Anthony Shane “Tony” Young of San Francisco, Calif.; four sisters, Belle Blosser and husband Jim of Stanley, Sherry Dean and husband Rudie of Shenandoah, Marjorie Leavell and husband John of Waynesboro, and Jill Young and companion Kevin Olinger, also of Shenandoah; three grandsons, Daniel Wade Young and wife Brittany, Bryon Tyler Young and companion Jillian Pangle, and Coty Scott Young; and seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Weston, Hadliegh, Brennan, Lennon, Wilder and Lydia.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amber Marie Young; and three brothers, Arnold Truman, David and John Young.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren by Pastor Donnie Lam. Burial will be in the Leake’s Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct.1, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Page County 4-H; checks should be made payable to Virginia Tech Foundation, 215 W. Main St., Suite C, Stanley, Va. 22851.
