Pettit captures three of Page County’s six Bull Run wins

QUICKSBURG, May 20 — Once again it was Page County junior Braxton Pettit setting the pace at the 2026 Bull Run District Track Championship hosted May 20 by Stonewall Jackson High School. Pettit won the district title in three events — 100 meter dash (11.36 seconds); 110 meter hurdles (14.51 sec) and 300 meter hurdles (442.28 sec). The junior also placed fourth in the triple jump (38 feet, 4.75 inches) and lead the Panthers, who won a total of six district titles among its boys and girls teams.

Luray High School was lead by junior Azmani Jackson who earned two district titles in the 200 meter dash (22.93 seconds) and the 400 meter dash (50.24 sec). Luray sophomore Daniel Frey was a district runner-up in the 300 meter hurdles at 42.34 seconds — just six one-hundredths of a second behind Pettit — and finished in fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles (16.57 sec). LHS senior Hayden Ruffner finished in fifth place in the 200 meter dash (25.09 sec), and freshman Rasheen Ducker finished fifth in the 110 meter hurldes (18.14 sec).

Page County junior Nate Holloway captured a district title in the shot put, throwing 49 feet — more than four feet further than the second place finisher. Holloway finished in sixth place in the discus (114 feet, 9 inches). PCHS senior Asher Kite finished as district runner-up in the 800 meter run (2:01.42), while fellow senior Aaron Hensely finished as district runner-up in the 3200 meter run (10:26.22). Kite also tied for fifth place in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.
The Panthers also had two relay teams finish well in the boys division — both the 4×100 meter relay (48.17 sec) and the 4×400 meter relay (3:55.21) teams finished in fifth place. The LHS 4×100 meter relay team finished in fourth (47.90).
IN THE GIRLS DIVISION…Both Luray and Page County posted two district titles winners.
Luray freshman Brylee Painter won the 1600 meter run in 5:29.19, while LHS junior Kristina McLain won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.4 seconds. McLain also finished in third place in the 300 meter hurdles (54.6 sec), while Painter also finihsed in fourth place in the 800 meter run (2:31.99). LHS sophomore Zoe Vaughn finished just over a second behind McLain in the 100 meter hurldes (18.62 sec), and junior Maya Jenkins finished about three second behind Painter in the 800 meter run (2:34.59). The Luray 4×100 relay team also finished in fourth (56.18 sec).
Page County junior Averie Green won a district title in the 100 meter dash at 13.12 seconds, and the Panthers’ 4×100 real team took the tile in 51.69 seconds. PCHS junior Bri Bracken finished as a district runner-up in the triple jump (30 feet, 11 inches) and finihsed fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:05.21). Page junior Adison Caton took third place in the long jump (14 feet, 9 inches) and fifth place in the 100 meter dash (13.6 sec).
Two freshman standouts for Page — Kaylee Holbert and Brenna McKay took third place in their respective events. Holbert won third in the 3200 meter run (14:19.94), while McKay earned third in the triple jump (29 feet, 10 inches). McKay also earned sixth place in the long jump (14 feet, 2 inches).
The Page girls tack team also had two relay teams perform well — the 4×400 meter relay team won third place (4:25.09) and the 4×800 meter relay team finihsed in fourth (12:24.27).
PCHS junior Brooklyn Miller finished in fifth place in the discus at 89 feet, 11 inches.
Between Luray and Page County high schools, local spring track athletes produced 18 Top 5 performances at the Bull Run District Championships, including 10 district titles and four runner-ups.
Region track action for this week was scheduled as follows:
- Region 1B track meet — Wednesday, May 27 at George Washington High School.
- Region 2B track meet — Tuesday, May 26 at Turner Ashby High School
