SHENANDOAH — The 2021 football season will be delayed for the Page County Panthers, as both games for this week against county-rival Luray have been cancelled.

The freshman football team was scheduled to kickoff the season tomorrow against the Bulldogs, while the varsity squad was set to travel to Luray on Friday. Now, everything is on hold until at least Friday, March 5, according to Athletic Director Keith Cubbage.

“We are on a two-week pause” due to COVID protocols, Cubbage told PVN on Monday. “Our varsity program is still a go. We have not shut down varsity football.”

However, freshman football appears to be a different story, where only nine players have come out for the team.

“Our freshman football season is highly questionable. However, they are also on a two-week pause, as our teams are forced to practice together by positions when we are inside,” Cubbage said. “We will see if we can get any additional kids out for freshman football when we return and then make a final decision at that time.”

The freshman football game scheduled at Madison on March 3 has been cancelled as well.

The varsity squad is still scheduled to open their 2021 season at home at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5 against the Mountaineers of Madison County.

If the remainder of the schedule holds up, the Panthers will still get five games in during this unprecedented spring season:

• Friday, March 5 — Page v. Madison

• Friday, March 12 — Page v. Clarke

• Friday, March 19 — Page @ Stonewall

• Friday, March 26 — Page @ Strasburg

• Thursday, April 1 — Page v. Luray
