LURAY, May 26 — A new, faster way to access local news in Page County is now available at the Apple Store.
Page Valley News announces a new app for iPhones that will make it easier to access the site — and it’s completely FREE. Go to the Apple Store and search “Page Valley News”. The app should appear as it does in the photo above. Use the prompts to download the app to your mobile device free of charge.
Abdullah Hashmi of Northern Virginia designed the new app for PVN. Hashmi will soon be heading out to California to accept a new position with Facebook. (We wish him lots of luck.)
The FREE app also offers users the option to receive “push notifications” for posts. PVN does not plan to send out notifications for every post to the site, but will instead reserve the push notifications for bigger issues and stories with broader reach.
A version of the app will soon be available on Android as well. PVN is currently awaiting approval from the company.
The app is aimed at making access to the site easier for mobile users, which currently make up about 80 percent of the traffic to PageValleyNews.com
In the first four months of operation, PVN has seen significant growth in traffic. Pageviews have increased from about 48,000 in the first month in February, to nearly 100,000 in April.
Here’s a look at PVN from its Feb. 3 launch through Monday, May 25 (a period of about 16 weeks):
36,472 unique visitors;
93,261 unique sessions;
So far through the month of May (just 25 days), PVN has had:
11,850 unique visitors;
25,916 unique sessions;
The owners of PVN would like to thank the thousands of readers who have embraced this new format for local news in Page County with interest and enthusiasm.
There are more improvements to come — stay tuned.
