Railroad memorial

HISTORY train Luray

February 15, 1989 — The Shenandoah Heritage Center Inc. has undertaken a project to memorialize railroaders whose work established the railroad heritage of the Shenandoah community.

The Norfolk and Western Cabin Car CF No. 518220 — more commonly known as a caboose — will house memorialized name plaques of those individuals as well as railroad relics and mementos.

The caboose, which was manufactured in 1917 in the shops of the Norfolk and Western Railway, must first be restored by members of the Heritage Center group, which began working on the project in 1983.
