September 1, 1911 — The Luray team, victors in last year’s contest, lost the state reel race at the meeting of the Virginia Firemen’s Association at Newport News last week, after crossing the line in 18 seconds, two seconds less time than was made by any other team, and being ready for water in 26 seconds.

Harrisonburg Hose Co. No. 4 won the state prize of $100 carrying with it the custody of the trumpet. The time of the winners was 30- 1/4 seconds.

Staunton took second prize of $50.

Six reel teams competed: Harrisonburg, Shenandoah, Staunton, Luray, Woodstock and Lexington.

Luray lost the race by the plugmen running past the plug.
