Age 92, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Robert Henry “Rob” Leicher passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022.
The youngest child of Gustav and Ida Mae (Brewerman) Leicher, Rob was born February 5, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA.
On May 5, 1950, he married the love of his life, Dolores “Dee” Ferrence, who preceded him in death May 4, 2015.
Throughout his life, his many random acts of kindness consistently enriched the lives of friends, family and even strangers. Ever humble, he never expected recognition. He proudly served two years in the Army during the Korean War. Stationed in Japan, he reached the rank of Corporal. Later, when thanked for his service, he would remind others to also remember the brave men and women who never got to return home.
Rob greatly enjoyed cooking, gardening, and music. He absolutely adored animals, and they were drawn to him in turn. Even stray or wild animals somehow knew he was the person to go to for help. He loved to travel, and his idea of heaven was a sunny beach, ocean waves, and his best girl by his side. His love of old time radio and classic comedies were ever-present in his whip-smart, one-liner sense of humor.
Rob was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He will be missed for the rest of our lives.
In addition to his parents and wife, Rob was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter and Norman; sister Esther Matscherz; sons Robert K. Leicher and Brian B. Leicher; and his nineteen-year-old, beloved dog-daughter, Buttons.
He is survived by daughters Sandra D. Ruckel of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tracy A. Leicher of Luray, Va.
Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, next to his beloved Dolores.
