Roddy ‘Rod’ Dale Stoner

Age 62, Shenandoah, Va.

Roddy (Rod) Dale Stoner, 62 of Shenandoah, Virginia, gained the crown of eternal life on April 12, 2024 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was taken swiftly by Pulmonary Fibrosis. 

He was born in Vyborg, South Dakota on October 10, 1961 to the late Arthur G. Stoner and Ruth E. (Lee), Stoner. He grew up in Brandon, South Dakota. He served in the Army Reserves for some time and also four years in the Navy where he rose to the rank of Second Class Petty officer. Roddy was lucky to have served in Peacetime. 

He earned his electronics training in the Navy and he went on to earn both his bachelors in Healthcare Administration, as well as his Masters certificate in Project management. Roddy had a 20-plus year career in Biomedical engineering. He managed the medical equipment and accounts for numerous hospitals throughout his work life. He retired from the Biomedical field three years ago, but attended DeVry University and earned his Medical Coding certification. His last position was coding remotely from home. He loved it.

He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran church in Winchester, Virginia. He loved firstly, his Lord and also, golf, reading, doing the daily crossword, singing and working in the yard. 

He met his spouse, Julia (McDonald) Stoner at Concordia University and they graduated together. Together they have two sons: Andrew Stoner and Jason Stoner. They were married for 27 years. He is survived by his spouse Julia Stoner, his siblings, Elsie Stoner, Gary Stoner, (Linda), Glen Stoner, and Raymond Stoner, (Julie), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pastor Paul Wilde will preside over Roddy’s memorial service Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Sulky Dr, Winchester, VA. There will be a small luncheon to follow.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
