STANLEY — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 46 calls for the month of June reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit. Chief Pettit reported that there were 17 emergency calls, 15 medical calls and 12 non-emergency calls. 

A breakdown of the calls show that the department responded to 15 medical calls, five calls for electrical lines down, three structure fires (three houses), two vehicle accidents (one single-vehicle and one two-vehicle), two automatic fire alarms, two fill ins, two fire safety presentations, two calls for lockouts, one lawn mower fire, water rescue, brush fire, standby fireworks display, check chimney, control burn, oil spill, assist motorist, remove tree from roadway, smoke investigation and building collapse.  

An average of 16 members responded to each emergency call and an average of five members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 26 and the least was nine.  

There were 443 miles placed on apparatus, and there was $1,100 in fire damage for the month. The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on eight calls, Page County EMS on two  calls, Luray Rescue Squad on three calls, Shenandoah National Park on three calls, Shenandoah Fire Department on three calls, Page County Sheriff’s Office on one call and Elkton Fire Department on one call. The department was assisted by the Page County EMS on one call.

One riding lawn mower was totaled due to fire, and there were four injuries during the month due to vehicle accidents.  

Members responding to the most emergency calls were: Chief Pettit 17, Daniel Cubbage 12, Mitch Martin 12, Colin Huffman 11, Kevin L. Painter 11, Brennan Stoneberger 11, Chance Wallace 11, Jason Pettit 10 and Jamie Rickard 10.  

Members answering the most medical calls were: Chief Pettit 13, Michael Morrison 8, Brennan Stoneberger 6, Daniel Cubbage 4 and Ethan Knight 4. 

Members answering the most non-emergency calls were: Chief Pettit 7, Michael Morrison 4, Daniel Rhinehart 4, Daniel Cubbage 3, Dale Housden 3, Colin Huffman 3, Ethan Knight 3, and Brennan Stoneberger 3.
