Stanley’s Co. 24 answered 55 calls in July, vehicle accidents result in eight injuries and one fatality

STANLEY — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 55 calls for the month of July, including 16 emergency calls, 14 medical calls and 23 non-emergency calls, according to a report from Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit. The total calls for the year is 357.

A breakdown of the calls includes 14 medical calls, six vehicle accidents (one single-vehicle, one two-vehicle, one four-vehicle, one vehicle/scooter, one vehicle into structure and one vehicle/pedestrian), four smoke investigations, four standby control burns, three lockouts, two house fires, two calls for searches, attended two parades, two grass fires, filled two pools from hydrants, two standby fireworks displays, two standby landing zones, one remove tree from roadway, control burn, electrical lines down, fire safety presentation, camper fire, standby funeral event, odor investigation, animal rescue and oil spill.   

There was no fire damage for the month, but there were eight injuries and one fatally during the month due to vehicle accidents. Three pickup trucks and three cars were also totaled. 

An average of 12 members responded to each emergency call and an average of nine members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 22 and the least was five.  

There were 681.3 miles placed on apparatus. The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on 12 calls, Page County EMS on two calls, Shenandoah Fire Department on three calls, Shenandoah National Park on one call and the Page County Sheriff’s Office on one call. The department was assisted by the Page County EMS on two calls and the Shenandoah Fire Department Water Rescue and Dive Team on one call. 

Members responding to the most emergency calls were Chief Pettit 13, Mike Lloyd 12, Mitch Martin 12, Colin Huffman 11, Bruce Stoneberger 12. Derek Franks 9, Ariel Beales 8, Darrnell Owens 8 and Chance Wallace 8.    

Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 9, Ariel Beales 7, Justin  Foltz 5 Derek Franks 5, Colin Huffman 5, J.T. Long 5, K.L. Painter 5, Daniel Rhinehart 5 and Bruce Stoneberger 5.     

Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Chance Wallace 11, Chief Pettit 10, Mike Lloyd 6, Brennan Stoneberger 5 and Kevin L. Painter 4.
