Tyler Scott Smelser, 35, of Rockingham County, Virginia, passed away on July 12, 2026. Born on July 26, 1990, Tyler lived a life defined by faith, family, kindness, and a genuine love for others.

Tyler was a devoted husband to Courtney Smelser and a proud father to his daughters, Presley and Cambrie Smelser, and Kyleigh Penwell. 

His family was the center of his world, and he gave his whole heart to his wife and girls. Whether spending time at home, attending family gatherings, or playing basketball and softball with Presley, Tyler treasured every moment with those he loved most.

A man of strong faith, Tyler loved God and was never hesitant to share that faith with others. He was often the first to lead a prayer, offer encouragement, or lend a helping hand. Tyler had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen, valued, and supported. He was always just a phone call away for anyone in need and never hesitated to be a shoulder to lean on.

Professionally, Tyler spent many years working in sales, where his hard work, dedication, and natural ability to connect with people earned him numerous top sales awards. Most recently, he was employed by Alamo Roofing, where he continued to excel and build lasting relationships with coworkers and customers alike.

Tyler had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. At every family gathering, he could be found laughing, playing with his nieces and nephews, and earning his well-deserved reputation as the favorite uncle. His contagious smile, generous spirit, and welcoming presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Tyler is survived by his loving wife, Courtney Smelser; his daughters, Presley and Cambrie Smelser, and Kyleigh Penwell; his mother, Lynette Keyser; his father, Rob Smelser and wife Tammy; his brother, Tim Smelser and wife Tiara; his sister, Tiffany Parker; his maternal grandmother, Anita Keyser; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Dovel and husband Bobby; his aunts, Rebecca Bradley, Lara Blosser and husband Chad, Sue Painter and husband AJ; his uncles, Frank Keyser and companion Denica Miller, and Ben Smelser and wife Gina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ike Smelser and Frankie Keyser; and his aunt, Dora Smelser.

Though Tyler’s time on earth was far too short, the impact he made on the lives of others will endure for generations. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to family, his servant’s heart, and the joy he brought to every room he entered. His legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leake’s Chapel Church in Stanley.

A funeral service celebrating Tyler’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Leake’s Chapel Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
