Four remaining candidates square-off for final appeal to voters

LURAY, Sept. 18 — For the next two weeks, we will be taking a break from our usual Wednesday posting of “Page Valley Livin’.” In its place, we offer two debates among candidates in contested races in the Town of Luray. This week, we feature the four remaining candidates in a race for three seats on the Luray Council.
Incumbents Jason Pettit (seeking second, four-year term) and Joey Sours (seeking his fourth term) are sitting to the moderator’s left (as viewed), while the two challengers, Chuck Butler and Robert Spencer, are sitting to the moderator’s right (on the screen). With three seats open among the four candidates, voters may check up to three names on the ballot.
During the one-hour discussion (framed more like a candidate forum), the four candidates will give their opinions on issues such as jobs, housing, parks, police, the Greenway, infrastructure, and taxes.
(The 2024 PVN Debate for the Luray Council was recorded on Monday, Sept. 16 at Laurel Ridge Community College’s Jenkins Hall in Luray, and first aired Wednesday, Sept. 18).
Coming up next week… we’ll conduct the second of two candidate forums, as we present the 2024 PVN Debate for Mayor of Luray. Stephanie Lillard and Ron Vickers have both agreed to participate in one last public appeal to the voters. It will air on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
“Page Valley Livin'” will return on Wednesday, Oct. 2. We’re working on developing shows on several local individuals who have interesting stories to tell, from war to the racetrack, and a longtime local attraction that will soon be growing.
