Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues in the Page Valley, while also reporting the Week in Review and checking out the Weekend Ahead

LURAY, March 13 — There’s a lot going on at the Luray Caverns Airport and longtime airport advocate Powell Markowitz tells us all about it. From its meek beginnings with a terminal in an old chicken coop, to the new spacious terminal now under construction, the local airport has grown in recent years with 47 aircraft now on site…all paying local taxes.

The sale of jet fuel has drawn more aircraft and provides another fueling option for emergency medical helicopters. An aviation mechanic shop provides about a dozen jobs and recently celebrated its third anniversary. An extended runway may still be a ways off, but both hangers built at Luray Airport filled quickly with a waiting list to boot.

Markowitz will guide us through these changes, paid for mostly with state and federal grants, or loans paid back through user fees. The local pilot also plays a quick round of “The 5Ws” to find out who inspired him to enter aviation, what’s his favorite plane to fly, where is the farthest he’s flown to from Luray Airport, and the reoccurring question … is the small airport just a place for rich boys to enjoy their expensive toys, or does it have true value as an economic development tool for the Page Valley?

As always, we’ll look back at “the week that was” in the Page Valley with a review of news headlines and sports, and we’ll tell you about some upcoming events to look out for this weekend.

(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 17 was recorded on Sunday, March 10 and first aired Wednesday, March 13).

Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… we’ll be promoting upcoming events as things start getting busy in the area this spring.

We’re also open to ideas…if you have one for an upcoming show — an interesting person you know (or want to know) with an interesting story — send us an email or provide a comment below.

The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia.
