LURAY, Jan. 24 — This week “Page Valley Livin'” visits with E.J. Wyant, head coach of the Page County High School girls basketball team, which is currently in second-place in the Bull Run District. After winter weather delays and rescheduling — both the games and the interview — the Panthers are set to host cross-county rival Luray this Saturday night.

Coming off wins over Madison Monday night (60-51, on the road) and Mt. View Tuesday night (60-23, at home for Senior Night), the Panthers now stand alone at second place in the district at 6-2. They have a rematch with district-leading Strasburg (7-0) on the road Feb. 5. However, this week features its own challenges, with a road game at Central (4-4) on Friday followed by hosting Luray (3-4) on Saturday night.

During Tuesday afternoon’s interview, Coach Wyant talks about the importance of the six seniors who were honored Tuesday night on the court at PCHS. He acknowledges the importance of this final stretch of the season, which will see Page playing on the road for four of its final six games against teams all aligned among the district’s Top 5.

Coach Wyant also describes the team’s key goal for the 2023-24 season, and how he keeps his team focused, given the stakes of the BIG GAME this weekend.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, Page County High School will host the first round of rivalry games this basketball season between the Panthers and the Bulldogs. Boys tip-off at 5 p.m.; girls at 7 p.m.

Coach Wyant was also kind enough to play “The 5Ws” with us, where we talked about his favorite basketball player of all time; his favorite team; where he learned the most about basketball; where he played in college; and why this 2023-24 Panther team is so special.

As always, we’ll look back at “the week that was” in the Page Valley with a review of news headlines and sports, and we’ll tell you about some upcoming events to look out for this weekend.

(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 10 was recorded on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and first aired Wednesday, Jan. 24).

Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… we’re working to secure an interview with Luray High School boys basketball coach Matt Huff prior to the next rivalry matchup on Feb. 9; a look into the new role that Taylor Alger is playing to coordinate non-profit efforts in the community; and a look inside the Andrew Jackson School Museum.

We’re also open to ideas…if you have one for an upcoming show — an interesting person you know with an interesting story — send us an email or provide a comment below.

The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
