Cruelty to children and animals, embezzlement among October’s 37 grand jury indictments

LURAY, Oct. 5 — A grand jury handed down a total of 37 indictments among 21 individuals during last Wednesday’s session in Page County Circuit Court.

One indictment was sealed, which typically indicates it is part of a larger investigation.

Among those named in indictments during the Oct. 5 grand jury session include:

Lazaro Coronoa Baltazar, (address not listed), was indicted on a Class 6 felony for the carnal knowledge of 13-14 year-old from an incident three or more years ago. The offense occurred on Nov. 8, 2007, according to court records, with no arrest date listed. No future court dates were included as well.

Powell Sutherland, of Brookville, Ohio, was indicted on an unclassified felony for aggravated sexual battery. The offense occurred on May 1, 2020, according to court records, with an arrest on April 25, 2022. Sutherland is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for further proceedings.

Dustin Ryan Burton, of Luray, Va., was indicted on three Class 6 felonies for cruelty or injuring a child through labor, child abuse/disregard for life, and nonviolent felony possession of a gun. All three incidents occurred on July 27, 2021, according to court records, with an arrest date of April 6, 2022. Burton is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 .m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 for a status hearing.

Caitlin Anne Williams, of Luray, Va., was indicted on two Class 6 felonies for child abuse/disregard for life. Both offenses occurred on July 27, 2021, according to court records, with an arrest date of April 6, 2022. Williams is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 for further proceedings.

Britany Nicole Good, of Shenandoah, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for child abuse/disregard for life. The offense occurred on June 8, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of June 19, 2022. Good is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for further proceedings.

Nichole Bessie Gayheart, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for torturing or maiming a dog or cat, and three Class 1 misdemeanors for cruelty to animals. All four offenses occurred on May 10, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of May 14, 2022. Gayheart is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 for a status hearing.

• Stephen Paul Williams, of Broadway, Va. was indicted on an unclassified felony for the embezzlement of funds greater than or equal to $200, and on three Class 1 misdemeanors for obtaining money by false pretenses (less than $200). The embezzlement offense occurred on Feb. 1, 2022, according to court records, while the misdemeanors occurred on Jan. 14, Jan. 31 and Feb. 10 of 2022. The arrest date listed for all offenses is May 19, 2022. Williams is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for further proceedings.

• Robert Nield Smith III, of Warrenton, Md., was indicted on an unclassified felony for obtaining a sum greater than $1,000 by false pretense, and two Class 5 felonies for forgery and uttering. All three offenses occurred on May 4, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of May 30, 2022 for the unclassified felony and an arrest date of May 27, 2022 for the two Class 5 felonies. Smith is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 for further proceedings.

• Paul Raymond Rush, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on an unclassified felony for grand larceny of something valued at more than or equal to $200 (not on person). The offense occurred on Nov. 24, 2021, according to court records. A capias warrant was issued for Rush’s arrest.

• Joshua Vernon Cubbage, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for possession of a weapon (ammunition, not a gun). The offense occurred on July 8, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of July 15, 2022. No future court dates were listed.

• Bruce Dolen Beahm, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug, two Class 1 misdemeanors for driving after forfeiting his license, and a Class 2 misdemeanor for eluding or disregarding police. The possession offense and an arrest occurred on Aug. 6, 2022, according to court records. The eluding charge and one license violation occurred on July 13, 2022, with an arrest on the same date. An earlier license charge occurred on July 10, 2022, according to court records, with no arrest date listed. Beahm is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for further proceedings.

• Phillip Michael Moneymaker, of Stephens City, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug and a Class 1 misdemeanor for the possession of a Schedule III drug. Both offenses and an arrest occurred on Aug. 6, 2022, according to court records. Moneymaker is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 for further proceedings.

• Trucker Lane Aleshire, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on March 24, 2022, according to court records. Aleshire is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 for a status hearing.

• Robert Charles Atkins, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and as arrest occurred on March 1, 2022, according to court records. Atkins is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for further proceedings.

• Tony Wayne Cash, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on June 20, 2022, according to court records. Cash is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 for a status hearing.

• Craig James Danley Jr., of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on May 5, 2022, according to court records. No future court date was listed.

• Candice Renee Dinges, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense occurred on April 25, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of April 29, 2022. Dinges is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for further proceedings.

• Ricky Doyle Gray Jr., of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense occurred on Feb. 6, 2022, according to court records, with an arrest date of April 12, 2022. Gray is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 for further proceedings.

• Joshua Lynn Knott, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on Sept. 22, 2022, according to court records. Knott is scheduled to appear in court again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for a bond hearing.

• Elvis Gene Shifflett Jr., of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for driving while intoxicated (third or subsequent offense). The offense and an arrest occurred on May 22, 2022. Shifflett is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for a status hearing.

• Ryan Nelson Parsell, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for making a false statement on criminal history consent. The offense occurred on Dec. 20, 2021, according to court records, with an arrest date of Feb. 20, 2022. Parsell is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022 for further proceedings.
