Franklin "Sam" Good

Age 87, Shenandoah, Va.

Franklin “Sam” Good, 87, of Shenandoah, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his home. He was born December 3,1936 in Shenandoah and was the son of the late Jimmy and Gladys Propes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Good.

Sam was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for 36 years and attended Shenandoah Pentecostal Holiness Church in recent years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958. He was an auto mechanic for many years before going into car sales. He was very active in church and taught “The Good Fellowship” Sunday school and was a member of Gideon International.

Sam was a member of the 1954 State Basketball Championship team for Shenandoah High School. He was involved in starting the Shenandoah Rec League, Sam also served as president for many years. He loved bowling. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

On April 29, 1961, he married Doris Cubbage Good who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Barbara Good and companion, Jayson Lowden of Covington, Va, Judi Sly and husband, Johnny of Harrisonburg, Linda Goodson of Shenandoah; son, Steve Good and wife, Dawn of Grottoes; sister, Betty Turner of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Chris Good, Brad Dean, Whitney Sparks, Spencer Getz, Tyler Getz, Molli Baugher, Noah Goodson, Stephanie Powell and Steven Good; 12 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Shenandoah Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Jimmy Kite, Rev. Stephen Creech, Evangelist Doug Gochenour, and Larry Sullivan officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
