October 15, 1987 — Seven persons were charged Saturday morning with attempting to kill game with the aid of bait, according to documents on file at Page County General District Court. Baiting carries a maximum penalty of $500 and/or six months in jail. The dawn raids were conducted by game wardens and were assisted by National Park Service rangers at baited sites near Shenandoah National Park. Those charged are accused of using or benefitting from the presence of salt, apples, plums, corn, wheat, lard, peanut butter, bacon grease and clams which were found at various locations.
