ATHENS, W.Va., Feb. 1 — In just two-and-a-half seasons, Emilee Weakley has set the all-time scoring record in women’s basketball at Division II Frostburg State University. On Saturday, the Luray High School alum hit for 28 points in a last-second loss to Concord and set the new FSU career scoring mark at 1,974 points.
A season ago on Jan. 10, 2024, Weakley surpassed the 1,000-point milestone in her collegiate career quicker than any other player in FSU program history, while also recording four double-doubles and two 40-point games. She averaged 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.
By the time she completed her four-year high school career at LHS, Weakley became the all-time leading scorer with 2,606 points and lead the Bulldogs to its first state title in girls basketball. That same season, she was named the VHSL Class 2 “Player of the Year.”
Prior to Weakley breaking the FSU record on Saturday, Frostburg State legend Sheila Colbert had held the high-scoring mark with 1,960 points since 1991. Weakley has averaged 25.97 points per game in her career with the Bobcats, and is currently averaging a career-best 27.7 points this season.
During Saturday’s game against Concord, Weakley went on a personal 7-0 run late in the fourth to tie the game at 73-73. Drawing a foul with a few seconds on the clock and down by three, Weakley hit both free throws bringing the score to 78-77. A last-second foul produced a 79-77 final score in the loss.
Putting up 28 points on her historic day, Weakley led all scorers while also pulling down seven rebounds.
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 12-8 on the season. The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when the team travels to face West Virginia State at 5:30 p.m.
