LURAY, June 13 — After an extensive search, Mt. Carmel Christian Academy tapped one of its own, Julie Nichols, to serve as the next school principal. Nichols, a graduate of Liberty University, has more than 34 years of teaching and educational experience, 10 of those years having been at MCCA dating back to 1991.

“We are thrilled to have Mrs. Nichols step into the role of Principal,” search committee chair, Dr. Gordon DeMeritt said. “Her experience in education, passion for students and a desire to support the staff made her an excellent candidate.”

Nichols will take on the duties of Principal after current Principal, Wendy Vucic, expressed her desire to leave the position at the end of the school year.

“Three years ago, we were blessed by the addition of Mrs. Vucic who led us through the chaotic time of COVID,” said Pastor Brian Hasse of Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church. “She has tirelessly worked to serve our MCCA family and the greater community of Page County.”

Mt. Carmel Christian Academy (MCCA) was founded in 1976 as a ministry of Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church in Luray, with a mission to foundationally disciple and equip students for life, preparing them to go forward to pursue their God-given mission in the world.

“I am excited to have Mrs. Nichols as our new Principal,” Pastor Hasse continued. “She loves Jesus, deeply values instilling a Biblical worldview in education and passionately cares for the students. Her strong, yet humble spirit is precisely what is needed for our MCCA family and the local community.”

In a recent letter to all staff, students and parents, the school announced Nichols as the new Principal and shared that the transition will begin immediately upon the completion of the current school year.

“We have received a great amount of support and excitement surrounding Mrs. Nichols’ announcement,” MCCA board member Aaron Cubbage said. “I’ve heard from parents and staff members alike who are in full support of Julie and look forward to the next school year.”

MCCA is a Christian school providing a Biblical worldview curriculum for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students. Located in Luray, the diverse student body represents Page County and surrounding areas with an enrollment of more than 200 students. The private academy celebrated its senior graduation in a ceremony on Sunday, June 4.

“I’m eager to continue to serve the students and staff at MCCA in this new role,” Nichols said. “This is a wonderful time at MCCA. We can reflect on the school’s historic accomplishments and build on those milestones as we look forward with anticipation of our 50th year in 2025.”
