June 17, 1965 — Up through last week, Wayne Comer of Shenandoah, who is playing the outfield for Montgomery in the Class AA Southern League, had a batting average of .278 and was leading the team in two hitting departments — most runs scored with 24 and most RBIs 23.
He had at the time made 47 hits in 45 games.
According to Ray Hollison, assistant sports editor of the Montgomery Advertiser, “Wayne Comer is Montgomery’s No. 1 outfielder,” and also said that Comer would be considered a definite candidate for the Southern League all-star team.
