Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues in the Page Valley, while also reporting the Week in Review and checking out the Weekend Ahead
By Randy Arrington
LURAY, Feb. 14 — For many years, those in the local non-profit world have discussed overlap, redundancy, coordination among various groups, and more efficient use of funds and resources to better serve those in need. Now, through a partnership of several local agencies, Taylor Alger is trying to fill that role of liaison among various groups all trying to accomplish the same basic mission…offer a helping hand to those who need it most.
Alger serves as the District 1 representative on the Page County School Board and wears many hats in the community — from working with after-school programs at The Rec on West Main and building bridges with local schools and the community, to helping those with substance abuse and planting community gardens.
While mentioning these many roles, our conversation focuses on her new role trying to bring many shining lights together into one beam of hope for the future. Alger talks about both her successes and her obstacles through her first six months.
Alger also plays “The 5Ws” with us and reveals who inspired her to do this work, what keeps her going, when and where she got started, and why these non-profit organizations — and her role — are important to reaching out to those in need in our community.
As always, we’ll look back at “the week that was” in the Page Valley with a review of news headlines and sports, and we’ll tell you about some upcoming events to look out for this weekend.
For those who would like to reach out to Alger to provide donations toward non-profit efforts — either monetary or through professional services — or simply to volunteer, call or text her office at 540-481-3232 or send an email to pacacommunitycoordinator@gmail.com
(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 13 was recorded on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and first aired Wednesday, Feb. 14).
Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… we’re working on plans to showcase local cuisine and eateries while promoting restaurants in the Page Valley coming up in March.
We’re also open to ideas…if you have one for an upcoming show — an interesting person you know (or want to know) with an interesting story — send us an email or provide a comment below.
The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
If you have suggestions for future shows or other recommendations, comment below…or comment on our videos on YouTube. If you like even a portion of what you see, please don’t forget to hit “Like” and Share the video, and smash that “Subscribe” button on our YouTube channel.
