LURAY, Feb. 7 — The Luray Bulldogs and the Page County Panthers will tip-off this Friday night in Luray during the second of two rivalry basketball games this season. Girls tip at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. To prep for the big night, we talk with LHS boys basketball coach Matt Huff about his Bulldogs, who are battling Clarke tonight for a No. 2 seed in next week’s Bull Run Tournament.

On Jan. 27, the Luray boys basketball team won a tough overtime battle with the Panthers, 67-65, at PCHS. Page’s Caden Combs posted a game-high 32 points, including five three-pointers. However, it was the Bulldogs who prevailed behind 19 points from junior Blake Jenkins. Coach Huff will talk about the “best 4-win team in Virginia” and the big matchup on Friday that marks both team’s regular season finale.

We will break down the Bulldogs’ starting five, and talk about the night they went to Madison and handed the Mountaineers their only loss in the Bull Run District while also posting a season-high 74 points.

Coach Huff will break down the Bull Run and discuss the parity in the district, with “seven teams that could win the district tournament” next week.

Coach Huff also plays “The 5Ws” with us and reveals his favorite player, his favorite team, his background in coaching, who he learned the most from, and why this 2023-24 team is so special. He also talks about his former coach at Clarke County, who he honored before Friday night’s game.

As always, we’ll look back at “the week that was” in the Page Valley with a review of news headlines and sports, and we’ll tell you about some upcoming events to look out for this weekend.

(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 12 was recorded on Monday, Feb. 5-6 and first aired Wednesday, Feb. 7).
