Driver not injured in Route 211 accident on Friday

LURAY, April 10 — Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred Friday at 4:25 p.m. on U.S. 211 westbound in Page County.
The trailer “broke off from the truck,” according to a state police report sent to PVN on Monday, “separated, and went off the road to the right, striking the guardrail. The trailer then rolled down the embankment.”
Although the state police report does not mention the cargo, it is clear from photographs (see above) and from the remaining feathers still at the crash site a few days later, that the 2024 Kenworth T880 was hauling live poultry when it flipped over the guardrail.
The accident occurred near Elbow Landing, a local rental property along that section of Route 211 on the eastern slope of the Massanutten Moutain and adjacent to the George Washington National Forest.
The truck was still ascending the Massanutten west toward New Market when the accident occurred. No further explanation of what went wrong has been released, as the incident remains under investigation. A large crane was reportedly brought in to lift the trailer from the rugged mountainside.
There has also been no further information on the amount of poultry lost, who they belonged to, or whether or not they were headed to New Market for processing.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
No charges have been filed at this time.
