~ Press release issued by Shenandoah Swim League on May 21

[On] Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the Shenandoah Swim League’s Board of Directors met online via Zoom in order to make a decision regarding the summer 2020 swim season.

After being presented two options by Steve Shaffer, President of the Shenandoah Swim League, Patty Pirtle, Director of the New Market Lightning Swim Team, made a motion to cancel any league-wide activities this summer and leave the structure of the season and pay of coaches up to the individual teams. Dawn Funkhouser, Director of the Edinburg Ducks Swim Team, seconded this motion. This motion passed unanimously, 12 directors in favor and 0 opposed.

This motion allows for each individual team, in conjunction with their town, to offer a competitive swim clinic under the direction of their team’s representatives, head, and assistant coaches. The only league requirement is that each team be in compliance with the phase 1/2/3 guidelines provided by Governor Northam as they are released.

It is with a very heavy heart we share this news with our community. However, the health and safety of our swimmers and their families remains the top priority for both the executive committee and the board of directors.

An announcement will be coming from each team’s directors no later than the end of June. Please continue to check your email, the league’s website, and your team’s Facebook pages for this communication.
