Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues in the Page Valley

By Randy Arrington

LURAY, July 2 — We’re posting a little ahead of our normal Wednesday publication for “Page Valley Livin'” this week to get the word out about the Independence Day activities in the Page Valley. We talk with Stanley Mayor Mike Knight about the four-day Stanley Homecoming taking place Wednesday through Saturday at Ed Good Memorial Park, and Luray’s Parks and Recreation Director Jen Jenkins about the “Downtown Get Down” in Luray on Thursday, July 4.

STANLEY HOMECOMING — Carnival rides, games and food vendors beginning all four nights at 6 p.m., with Kid’s Night on Thursday. Entertainment at the Pioneer Bank Performance Center includes: WED – Miss Stanley Pageant; THURS – Virginia Rain (bluegrass) and “I’ve Got a Voice” contest; FRI – Who Shot John Band; SAT – parade at 5 p.m., awards ceremony, Danny Kensy & Cedar Creek band, and fireworks (about 9:30 p.m.).

LURAY’S DOWNTOWN GET DOWN — 6-9 p.m. Thursday, July 4; music at 6 p.m. – Big City Band at Ruffner Plaza, and Earls of Kent at Mechanic Street stage; duck races at 6:30 and 8 p.m. (fundraiser for PACA); food vendors, inflatables, crafts and games; fireworks at 9:25 p.m. at fairgrounds (limited parking at fairgrounds, use Gate 1 at DMV to enter, gates open at 7 p.m. – fireworks can be seen along greenway and in Downtown Luray). Party on the Plaza at the Rebecca J. Graves Regional Center for the Performing Arts, and live bluegrass in the parking lot at Main Street Flavors.

(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 28 was recorded on Monday, July 1 and first aired Tuesday, July 2).

Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… we’re working on a special look inside the Luray Singing Tower, a tour of Yager Springs and the Hawksbill Greenway extension, and interviews with local candidates in contested council races. We’re also open to ideas…if you have one for an upcoming show — an interesting person you know (or want to know) with an interesting story — send us an email or provide a comment below.

The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
