Junior Emilee Weakley has lead the Luray High School girls soccer team to a 6-1 start this spring with a dominating performance on both sides of the ball, but it was her scoring frenzy last Thursday that proved to be an “Athlete of the Week” moment.

Madison County jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the Bull Run District matchup on Thursday between two of three teams chasing top-ranked Clarke County. Luray answered a few minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. Then, just past midway in the first half, Weakley exploded for three goals in less than four minutes to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 advantage.

Luray would hold on for the 6-3 win, moving them clearly into second place in the Bull Run behind undefeated Clarke. Madison fell to 4-3 on the season. The Bulldogs (6-1) will have another key matchup on Wednesday, as they host Stonewall Jackson, who is now nipping at their heels at 4-1.
