Year-to-date rainfall reaches 58-year average

STANLEY — Total rain for the month of May was 5.65 inches, or 1.49 inches above the 58-year May average of 4.16 inches. The last time the Valley received above average rainfall for the month was January 2026. May provided 13 days with measurable rain. A typical May averages 13 days with measurable rain. The 2026 year-to-date total is 15.37 inches, or 0.05 inch above average.

Temperatures for the month of May were below average. The mean temperature for the month was 62.8 degrees. The 58-year average mean temperature for May is 63.9 degrees.

The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 73.5 degrees, or 1.9 degrees below the average high of 75.4 degrees. High temperatures for May climbed into the 90s on three days, the 80s on five days, the 70s on 14 days, the 60s on five days and the 50s on four days during the month. The high for the month was 92 degrees on May 18, May 19 and May 20.

The warmest May dates back to 1977 with an average high temperature of 83.0 degrees. The coolest May on record was in 2020 with an average high temperature of only 69.5 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 52.0 degrees, or 0.4 degree above the average low of 52.4 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 30s on four days, the 40s on nine days, the 50s on 11 days and the 60s on seven days during the month. The low for the month was 39 degrees on May 1, May 3, May 8 and May 12.

The peak wind gust for the month was 32 mph on May 5.

One record was broken during May 2026:

• May 21 — single day rain of 1.40 inches; previous record of 0.87 inch in 1983.
