Warmest April in last 58 years

STANLEY — April 2026 will go down as the warmest April in the past 58 years. The mean temperature for the month was 61.8 degrees. The 58-year average mean temperature for April is 55.4 degrees.

The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 73.8 degrees, or 6.8 degrees above the 58-year average high of 67.0 degrees. High temperatures for April climbed into the 90s on one day, the 80s on 12 days, the 70s on seven days, the 60s on six days and only in the 50s on four days during the month. The high for the month was 90 degrees on April 15.

The second warmest April was in 1974, where the average afternoon high temperature was 71.7 degrees. The coolest April on record was in 1987, where the average afternoon high temperature was 60.7 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 49.7 degrees, or 6.7 degrees above the 58-year average low of 43.8 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 20s on two days, the 30s on four days, the 40s on eight days, the 50s on 10 days, and in the 60s on six days during the month. The low for the month was 27 degrees on April 21.

Total rain for the month was 2 inches, or 1 inch below the April average of 3 inches. Measurable rain was recorded on six days during the month. The 58-year April average is 10 days with rain. Total year-to-date rainfall is 9.77 inches, or 1.44 inches below average.

The wettest April on record was 2011 with 6.4 inches of rain. The driest occurred in 1985 with only 0.51 inches of rain recorded.

The peak wind gust for the month was 36 mph on April 5.

• April 1 — maximum low temperature of 67 degrees; previous record of 63 degrees in 1998.
• April 4 — maximum low temperature of 67 degrees; previous record of 62 degrees in 1981.
• April 4 — high temperature of 85 degrees; previous record of 84 degrees in 2011.
• April 13 — maximum low temperature of 69 degrees; previous record of 65 degrees in 2018.
• April 15 — high temperature of 90 degrees; previous record of 86 degrees in 1976.
• April 16 — high temperature of 90 degrees; tied the record of 90 degrees in 1976.
• April 21 — low temperature of 27 degrees; previous record of 30 degrees in 1981.
