March 4, 1965 — Sixty-six students of Page County High School miraculously escaped injury Monday afternoon when the school bus they were riding in rammed into the rear of an auto containing two other students of the school at the south end of the Grove Hill bridge on Route 340. Both vehicles were traveling south.
The two occupants of the car were not quite so fortunate. They were Sammy Good and his sister, Priscilla, who were first taken to Dr. G.W. Sessoms’ office in Shenandoah for treatment and then transferred to the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg for observance and x-rays.
They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Good, of the Steam Hollow section near Shenandoah. Both are in the sophomore class at Page County High School. Their condition was listed as satisfactory yesterday.
Max Louderback, driver of the school bus, said he was following the Good car when it slowed down intending to make a left turn as soon as a northbound car passed. When Louderback attempted to slow down the bus, the brakes failed and the bus plowed into the rear of the car. The impact drove the Good car into the other lane where it side-swiped the oncoming car.
The school bus and the Goods had just left the high school and were homeward bound when the accident occurred.
