LHS freshman first to earn All-State in boys cross country in 23 years

Luray High School freshman Davey Johnson finished 14th among 104 top Class 2 competitors in Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the VHSL boys cross country championships in Salem.

When the freshman cross the finish line at Salem’s Green Hill Park in 17:32.3, Johnson also became the first Bulldog to win All-State honors in boys cross country in 23 years. Matt Schu is reported to be the last person to accomplish that feat back in 1998.

Johnson placed third at the Bull Run District championship on Oct. 27 in New Market, followed up by a fourth-place finish at the Region B championship Nov. 3 in Woodstock.
