SHENANDOAH, Sept. 28 — With a key Bull Run District win over Mt. View Thursday night, the Page County Panthers now sit just two games behind a four-way tie for second place. The three-set sweep of the Generals left the Panthers at 3-5 in the Bull Run, while Luray, Rapp, Madison and Clarke all sit at 5-3. Page has six district matches remaining.

PCHS senior Adryn Martin lead the Panthers with a dozen kills on the night. However, a total of 10 Panthers contributed to the scoring through either a kill or an ace during the district match. Seniors Faith Mason and Destiny Wright contributed four kills each.

Page jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the first set, but Mt. View made a comeback and tied things up in the teens four different times. At 17-17, the Panthers would go on a 8-2 run to close out the set, 25-19. Back-to-back aces by senior Savannah Pence helped fuel that final run.

In the second set, the Generals would hold their only lead at 4-3 before the Panthers went on two different 6-0 runs en route to building a substantial 24-11 margin. However, Mt. View would not concede and rattled off seven straight points of their own to bring the score to 24-18. On the final point, three powerful spikes by Martin were returned by the Generals, but the fourth time was a charm as Martin recorded another kill and ended the second set at 25-18. During the set, senior Carter Umberger posted three straight aces.

Martin then delivered four of Page’s opening six points in the third set with towering spikes. Despite a 6-2 Page lead, the momentum in the third and final set swayed back and forth, knotting up a fourth time when the score reached 23-23. The Panthers then forced two mistakes by the visitors and secured the last set 25-23, and swept the match 3-0.

The Generals were lead by senior Sydney Hulver with six kills and three aces.

With the win, Page County moves to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the Bull Run. While that’s technically only good enough for sixth place, the Panthers remain only two games out of that four-way tie for second, with six games remaining.

Next up, the Panthers host Randolph-Macon Academy on Friday night, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., before hitting the road next Tuesday, Oct. 3 to take on the Eagles of Clarke in Berryville. Mt. View will host Stuarts Draft on Monday and Rappahannock on Tuesday.
