Luray High School junior Jaidyn McClung has been named the 2021 “Player of the Year” for volleyball in the Bull Run District. Volleyball coaches from across the district voted and released the results on Friday, Oct. 29 following the conclusion of the district volleyball tournament.

McClung was selected first team All-District along with LHS senior Trinity Belton and Page County High School senior Caris Lucas. The three volleyball standouts were the only local players to earn a spot on the All-District squad.

Top-seeded East Rockingham defeated No.2 seed Central of Woodstock, 3-2, in the Bull Run District tournament championship last Thursday at East Rock. In order to reach the title game, East Rock defeated Clarke, 3-0, and Central beat Madison, 3-1, in the semifinal round.

In the regular season standings, East Rock and Central tied with a 13-3 district record and were named co-champions. Luray and Page finished fifth and sixth in the district, respectively.

The quarterfinal round of the Region B volleyball tournament gets underway tonight (Tuesday), with the Bulldogs of Luray traveling to Madison to take on the Mountaineers, while the Panthers of Page travel to East Rock to face the Eagles.
