Page County veterinarian elected president of statewide organization

Dr. Nathaniel Burke

RICHMOND, March 11 — The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) has announced Dr. Nathaniel C. Burke as the 2024-2025 President.

Dr. Burke was voted into office at VVMA’s Annual Meeting on Feb. 12, and was officially installed on Feb. 23 by Dr. Lori Teller, immediate past president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The installation took place at the Virginia Veterinary Awards Ceremony at the Virginia Veterinary Conference, held at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center in Roanoke.

“We are so proud to have Dr. Burke representing the veterinary profession of the Commonwealth and beyond,” stated Dr. Thomas Massie, Owner of Rose Hill Veterinary Practice PC and Past President of the VVMA. “His leadership and organizational skills will serve us all well.”

Dr. Burke is a large animal veterinarian at Rose Hill Veterinary Practice P.C. He is a native of Page County Virginia, where he grew up on the family farm raising swine and beef cattle. After graduating from Page County High School, he became a life-long Hokie, earning his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Virginia Tech.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Burke has worked as an ambulatory large animal clinician in Pennsylvania, a mixed animal veterinarian in the Shenandoah Valley, and as a field veterinarian for the Virginia Department of Agriculture. He is married to Dr. Sarah Krall (VMRCVM ’10), who he met in veterinary school. Together, they have a son, Grayson and a daughter, Anna Mae.

The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) is a professional organization of veterinarians dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of human and animal life through veterinary medicine. The organization aims to establish and enhance open communication between members of the association and industry representatives. The VVMA provides continuing education programs and conferences, supports its members through mentoring programs, lobbies on behalf of the interests in the field of veterinary medicine and serves as an advocate and voice for the Virginia veterinary medicine community.
