Dear Editor:
For many voting-age residents, the upcoming elections are not so much about political parties, ideology, or labels. They’re about something much simpler that affects all of us, regardless of partisan differences. Namely, the cost of daily living.
Do you know anyone who recently bought anything without being alarmed over the price?
This runs across the board, with continued high cost for most everything — groceries, gas, diesel, fertilizer, housing, electricity, healthcare, interest rates on mortgage and credit cards, equipment and electronics, childcare, education…you name it. Especially for people who are otherwise not much interested in politics, one thing is painfully obvious…inflation consumes your budget.
The causes of that inflation include the war in Iran and how it has cut off oil supply, tariffs on imports, deportation of legal immigrants needed to work in construction and farming, and uncontrolled growth of data centers that jack up the prices we pay for utilities and construction materials.
For many voters, the bottom line in the mid-term elections is straightforward — whether to vote for government officials who tolerate these inflationary policies, or for candidates who’ll fight to change them.
