HISTORY train Luray

December 16, 1965 — Smitty’s Restaurant on Virginia Avenue in Shenandoah was shot into Sunday night about 11:30 o’clock by a party or parties unknown.

No one was injured as the restaurant was closed at the time. It was formerly known as Grace’s Lunch. S.A.

Smith, owner of the restaurant and also Shenandoah Police Chief, said the bullet passed through a large plate glass window, hit a tray on the counter and ricocheted into the ceiling. He said the bullet apparently came from a high-powered gun.

The incident is still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
