STANLEY — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 41 calls for the month of August reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit. Chief Pettit reported that there were 16 emergency calls, eight medical calls and 17 non-emergency calls. 

A breakdown of the calls show that the department responded to eight medical calls, six standby events (2 Triathlon, 2 Truck and Tractor Pulls, Dirt Drag and Demo Derby), four lock outs, three standby control burns, three structure fires (two houses, one barn), three calls for electrical lines down, three vehicle accidents, two automatic fire alarms, two calls to remove tree from roadway and one fire safety presentation, transformer fire, LP gas leak, welfare check, standby landing site, smoke alarm activation and fill in. 

An average of 14 members responded to each emergency call and an average of 4 members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 28 and the least was 4 members. 

There was 427 miles placed on apparatus and there was $1,000 in fire damage for the month.

The department assisted the Page County EMS on four calls, Shenandoah Fire Department on four calls, the Stanley Rescue Squad on three calls, Luray Rescue Squad on three calls and the Shenandoah National Park on one call. The department was assisted by the Page County EMS on one call and Stanley Rescue Squad on one call. 

Two pickup trucks and one land rover were totaled due to vehicle accidents. There were two injuries during the month due to vehicle accidents.  

Members responding to the most emergency calls were Chief Pettit 16, Zack Croft 10, Bruce Stoneberger 10, Ethan Knight 10, Chance Wallace 9, Colin Huffman 9, Michael Morrison 9, Joey Long 9, Dale Housden 8 and Kevin L. Painter 8.

Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 7, Mathew Price 3 and Daniel Rhinehart 3.   

Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Chief Pettit 8, Brennan Stoneberger 6, Colin Huffman 4, Chance Wallace 4, Derek Franks 3, Ethan Knight 3, Mike Lloyd 3, Michael Morrison 3, Kevin L. Painter 3, Jason Sours 3, Bruce Stoneberger 3, Ken Sumpter 3 and Kevin Tester 3.
