Stanley’s Co. 24 answered 51 calls in July, $166,000 in fire damage

STANLEY — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 51 calls for the month of July reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit. Chief Pettit reported that there were 16 emergency calls, eight medical calls and 27 non-emergency calls. Total calls for the first six months are 357. 

A breakdown of the calls show that the department responded to seven medical calls, six vehicle accidents, five standby control burn, four calls for electrical lines down, four calls to remove trees from roadway, two fireworks display, two smoke investigations and one structure fire, lock out, automatic fire alarm, assist motorist, standby dirt drags, standby landing zone, fill dunking tank, pump out basement and LP Gas Leak.

An average of 11 members responded to each emergency call and an average of seven members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 17 and the least was five.  

There was 458 miles placed on apparatus and there was $166,000 in fire damage for the month. The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on seven calls, Page County EMS on three calls, the Shenandoah National Park on two calls, Shenandoah Fire Department on one call, Luray Rescue Squad on one call and the Page County Sheriff’s Office on one call.  The department was assisted by the Luray Fire Department on one call.

There was one vehicle accident related injury during the month and a total of $166,000 in fire damage. One camper, tractor and house were total losses due to fire. One van, car and pickup were totaled due to vehicle accidents.  

Members responding to the most emergency calls were Chief Pettti 16, Mike Lloyd 13, Colin Huffman 10, Jason Pettit 10, Mathew Price 9, Andrew Stoneberger 9, Bruce Stoneberger 9, Brennan Stoneberger 9, and Darrnell Owens 9.   

Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 8, Mike Lloyd 5, Zach Croft 3, Ethan Knight 3 and Brennan Stoneberger 3.  

Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Mike Lloyd 14, Darrnell Owens 12, Chief Pettit 11, Ethan Knight 9, Brennan Stoneberger 7, Collin Huffman 6, Ariel Beales 5, Mitch Martin 5 and Chance Wallace 5.
