Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues, sites and events in the Page Valley
By Randy Arrington
STANLEY, Oct. 7 — This week we sit down with a man of many talents and many tales of the “old days” and the “old ways.” Clyde Jenkins‘ family dates back to the 1700s in Page County, and he still lives in a cabin dating back to 1890. He will talk about his white oak basket weaving, which he has done for the Smithsonian, Colonial Williamsburg and the First Lady (also a type of basket). He’ll talk about his more than 350 varieties of heirloom apples that he keeps from extinction, and his stone work that helped build the Blue Ridge Heritage Project chimney in two of eight locations and three of four monuments in Page County marking the VA250 celebration this year. He will also tell a Pine Grove tale about a mixup between flour and cement during the Great Depression.
The “old ways” will be on display this weekend at the Page County Heritage Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11 at the Page Valley Fairgrounds.
(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 135 was recorded Tuesday, Oct. 6, and aired Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026).
Coming up on Page Valley Livin’…we’ll visit the Page County Heritage Festival, and we’ll catch up on the status of various projects in Page County’s Economic Development and Tourism Office.
The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about the people, places and events that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
