Weekly YouTube show dives into various issues, sites and events in the Page Valley

LURAY, Aug. 12 — This week we sit down to talk with Page County Administrator Amity Moler about “hot button” issues in the county, as well as looking at the county’s financial reserves and what “big ticket” items may be looming in the future.
We’ll discuss such topics as the county’s effort to reopen the DMV Select office in Luray (which closed in April), the traffic light at the Food Lion shopping center (the scene of numerous accidents), the 59 acres the EDA owns near the Tech Center on Goodrich Road (idle for years), plans for a new Recreation Center (board indecisive on plan and location), an update on the regional broadband project (when will it be complete), an upcoming public hearing on proposed code changes for short-term rentals (next month), the county’s reserve funds (how much do we have), the need for a new jail (are there plans in the works), plans for future school construction (the need to plan ahead for the county’s largest capital project in its history), needs at the landfill (new cell plans and overall operations), and changes in state law that will potentially give the local government more taxing authority (1 percent additional on sales tax), if it passes a local referendum in 2027.

The aim and purpose of these videos is to provide more information about the people, places and events that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
