Age 84, Luray, Va.

Edward Jackson “Bill” Pullen, also known as “Bill Nick,” born August 25, 1941, passed away peacefully, August 18, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever cherish him.

Born in the Hollow and passing in the Hollow, Bill was a hardworking man who lived a simple, honest, and meaningful life. By trade, he was a logger and farmer, and he took great pride in working with his hands. He was the kind of man who was always willing to work hard, lend a hand, or sit down and have a conversation. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was always ready with a good joke, and was someone who was easy to talk to.

Bill found happiness in the simple things in life. He loved taking his daily walks down the road, enjoying fried apples, and sitting outside in his chair when the weather was nice. He enjoyed taking trips to Luray, attending tractor pulls and steam gas shows, and spending time at the dirt track races. He was rarely far from a pile of wood, as he could often be found cutting wood to keep a warm fire going.

Above all else, Bill loved his family. Some of his greatest joys came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The memories he made with them, the stories he told, his jokes, and simply having him there will be treasured for generations to come.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Campbell Pullen; his parents, Charles Edward Pullen and Libby Jane Sisk Pullen; his infant brother, Charles E. Pullen; his sister, Dorothy “Lou” Poehler; and his son, David Allen Pullen.

He leaves behind his children, sons, Russell M. Dodson and wife Penny of Orange County, Virginia, Gary Wayne Pullen and wife Beverly of Stanley, Virginia, and Robert “Eddie” Pullen and wife Pam of Luray, Virginia; and daughter, Kim Dwyer and husband James of Washington, Virginia.

He is also survived by his brother, Ray Pullen and wife Kathy, and Charles Moates; sisters, Esther Martin, Marjorie Atkins and husband Tim, Sue Pullen, and Ellen Pullen; grandsons, Richard Dodson and wife Denise, Jamie Dwyer and wife Alaina, Charles Edward “C.E.” Pullen and wife Haley, Dustin Pullen, and Dylan Pullen, as well as his beloved great-grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, Aubree, Payton, Kaiya, Everleigh, and Cecelia.

Bill will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. His hardworking hands, quick wit, good jokes, quiet routines, and love for his family will live on in the memories he leaves behind.

He was born in the Hollow, lived his life there, and passed from this world in the Hollow—a place that was home.

His life may have been simple, but the love and memories he leaves behind are anything but. He will be loved, remembered, and missed for generations to come.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21, at the Bradley Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery.
