In other business at its Jan. 23 meeting, the Shenandoah Council took the following actions:
• Unanimously approved the hiring of Angela Schrimscher as Town Clerk, at a salary of $31,200 per year, with a six-month probationary period. Her start date was to be determined after she gave two-weeks notice at her current job.
• Unanimously approved a request to hold the “Walk for Jesus” requested by organizer Patricia Long on May 18, 2024 involving a group walking and singing along Main Street in all three towns in Page County. Long told the council she had received approval from Stanley and Luray to conduct the walk. Duane Painter is the local coordinator for Shenandoah.
• Received a memo from Shenandoah United Methodist Church inviting Council members and their spouse/guest to the Seventh Appreciation Dinner for our First Responders at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024. The event will be held at co-sponsor Christ United Methodist Church, in the fellowship hall at 211 Central Avenue. RSVP is requested by Thursday, February 8, 2024.
• Unanimously approved the $13,110 purchase of a new soft start controller for a well pump from Trumbo, who will also install the new 30HP SQD Altistart 48 enclosed Soft Start Controller to replace the existing Revere Pump Controller.
• Unanimously approved work by Trumbo to update breakers’ wiring and starter for the Wastewater Treatment Plant at a cost of $3,870. The upgrade will accommodate the previously approved lift pump for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, which needs more power.
• Unanimously approved the purchase of a swivel reel and water tank for the sewer jet machine (used by Town crews to clear sewer lines) from Vacutek at a cost of $2,703.35; the purchase of a backup gear motor from iMotion Industries for $889.22; and the acceptance of a bid of $735 from Mountain Valley for eight HVAC units’ service contract.
• Unanimously approved Town crews to begin work on replacing 200 linear feet of water line extending to the north of Town along 340 from Marcus Street. The 4-inch cast iron water line was recently repaired a fifth time in the same area, prompting Town Manager Charlie Jenkins to recommend replacing a section of the line.

The Page Free Clinic provided more than 500 free medical visits in 2023 those who do not have access to affordable health care. Received a thank you card from the Shenandoah Lions Club for the Town’s donation to its 2023 Christmas Cheer Project, which was used to purchase food donated to Page One.
• Heard a report from Town Manager Charlie Jenkins that the Town has been informed by its insurance carrier that they will cover all costs, minus the deductible, associated with the Trenton Well lightning strike.
