Year-to-date rainfall below average

STANLEY — The total rainfall for the month of July was 3.15 inches, or 1.03 inches below the July average of 4.18 inches. The calendar year-to-date rain total is 22.16 inches, or 1.41 inches below average.
The driest July in the Page Valley dates back to 1983, with only 0.61 inches of rain recorded. The wettest July was in 1970, with 8.44 inches of rain.
Temperatures for the month of July were above average. The mean temperature for the month was 77.2 degrees. The 58-year average mean temperature for July is 76 degrees.
The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 87.4, or 0.2 degree above the average high temperature of 87.2 degrees. High temperatures for July climbed into the 90s on 10 days — five of those days occurred on the first five days of the month. High temperatures in the 80s were recorded on 19 days and in the 70s on two days during the month. The high for the month was 98 degrees on July 1 and 3.
The average daily low temperature for the month was 66.9 degrees, or 2.1 degrees above the average low temperature of 64.8 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 50s on two days, the 60s on 20 days and in the 70s on nine days during the month. The low for the month was 57 degrees on July 24.
The warmest July on record was in 1999, where the average afternoon high was 92.1 degrees, with 26 days reaching the 90-degree mark or higher. The coolest July was in 2000 (one year later), where the average afternoon high was only 81.2 degrees, with two days above the 90-degree mark.
The peak wind gust for the month was 41 mph during a thunderstorm on July 4.

• July 3 — high temperature of 98 degrees; previous record of 97 degrees in 1970.
