Rezoning tabled on hotel after conflict with airport

Luray-Cave Hill

June 10, 1990 — The Page County Planning Commission tabled a rezoning request Monday for a new motel near Luray after hearing neighbors’ concerns and possible conflicts with the county airport. Officially, the planning commission tabled the request by Chandresh Mehta and his family so more information could be gathered to see if the construction of a motel on the U.S. 211 site would hinder the airport’s proposed $10 million expansion.

The Mehtas are asking that about three acres of land on the corner of U.S. 211 and Airport Road (Va. 652) be rezoned from agriculture to commercial. Attorney Mark Reed, who represented the Mehtas, told the commission that his clients were under the impression that the land was already zoned commercial and did not realize it was agricultural until they applied for a building permit to start the motel’s construction.
