To the Editor:
The Town of Stanley would like to thank everyone who made this year’s annual Halloween Block Party the best with the biggest crowd ever.
Special thanks to Town Staff, Parks and Recreation, Stanley Police Department, Homecoming Committee, Stanley Fire Department, Stanley Rescue Squad, all the nearly 20 businesses and community organizations who participated, and most of all, the children who attended.
The Stanley Police Department and Town Staff passed out more than 750 bags of candy, popcorn, or cotton candy during the two-hour event. Town manager Terry A. Pettit stated that adding parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who also attended, he is estimating the crowd could have been as high as 1,500.
The barrel train recently purchased by the Town and driven by Vice Mayor Bruce Stoneberger was also a huge success taking children rides up and down East Main Street.
The event was postponed to Sunday due to the rain on Saturday and plans are already underway how to make it even bigger next year.
