Tour de Trump

May 10, 1990 — Donald did not show up, nor were Ivana or Marla present. But Page County was treated to one of cycling’s crown jewels as the Tour de Trump, a 1,107-mile bike race through the Mid-Atlantic and New England states, wended its way through the Valley en route to Winchester Monday.

The leg which passed through here a little past lunchtime was a road race for Charlottesville to Winchester. It was supposed to have taken about 4.25 hours but ended up taking nearly 5.50 as Sunday’s climb of Wintergreen Mountain on a race from Richmond to U.Va. caught up with many of the riders.

After riding up to 2,300 feet at Thornton Gap, the 120 or so riders descended into the Page Valley like bargain hunters at a going-out-of-business sale.
